2017 Business Excellence Awards

In September, October and November this year I flew over to the Solomon Islands to run the annual Business Excellence Awards (BEA) for the third consecutive year, which took place on Saturday 4th November at the Coral Sea Resort and Casino.

 

The BEA is the biggest awards event to take place in the Solomon Islands which recognises businesses who have achieved outstanding success and made valuable contributions to the the local community. This year 10 businesses were given the honours in the following categories: BUSINESS CONTRIBUTION TO THE COMMUNITY , INNOVATION & TECHNOLOGY, SMALL BUSINESS OF THE YEAR, MEDIUM BUSINESS OF THE YEAR, LARGE BUSINESS OF THE YEAR, AGRI BUSINESS OF THE YEAR, TOURISM BUSINESS OF THE YEAR, NEW BUSINESS OF THE YEAR, ENTREPRENEUR OF THE YEAR & THE PRIME MINISTER’S BUSINESS EXCELLENCE AWARD.

 

The Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare was again in attendance and gave what would be his final speech to be made at a Business Awards event as Prime Minister of the Solomon Islands as sadly he was voted out on the Monday following the event. 

 

Attendees were treated to a very special keynote which was delivered by the first ever female to head up the Pacific Islands Forum, Dame Meg Taylor, Secretary General to the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat.  Dame Meg Taylor's speech was both inspiring and encouraging.

 

 I feel honoured to be able to go back to the Solomon Islands and organise such a prestigious event. It is a mammoth task but thankfully the team at the Solomon Islands Chamber of Commerce are a great help and we have two wonderful MC's who simplify my job on the night.

 

I also employ an Entertainment  Manager who assists with booking and hiring the entertainment for the event. There are so many talented individuals in the Solomon Islands. I am always in awe of their performances. The BEA employs about 80 local staff to bring the event together, plus we use a myriad of local suppliers. It is great event which supports the local economy.
